The first trailer for Jem and the Holograms hit the web – we’ve got the highlights right now.

Whether you’re an old school fan of the 80s cartoon or a newbie to the movie, Jem and the Holograms has a lot of people a-talking after the trailer just debuted. (1) First of all, we love that this is a modern-day take on the story… the girl group is discovered via a YouTube upload, and funny enough, main gal who you will wind up knowing as her public persona JEM doesn’t even know that her sister posted the singing video. So it blows up and a record label winds up wanting to sign the girls – yep, because it’s not just our main gal but the group… and who doesn’t love a family of musicians?! (2) In fact, peeps who just love the 80s will be excited to see that the mom is played by Molly Ringwald (3)
Speaking of, we’re stoked to see our friend Ryan Guzman in the movie too – that’s one of our trailer highlights (4).
(5) And we can’t get enough of the transformation – since the original storyline is all about the girls having 2 different lives – one public and one private – how fun is this?!
Of course, the label’s executive just cannot wait to pull Jem out from the group and let’s just say it might cause some tension. Can we say DRAAAAMA?!? (6)
It’s definitely a highlight to hear a very recognizable song in the background of the trailer… If you didn’t catch it, I’m talking about One Direction’s “Story of My Life” (7)

And we can’t forget that Jon M Chu directed the film – that’s a huge highlight! – he’s a really talented guy who worked on some of the Step Up movies, Never Say Never and he’s working on the sequel to Now You See Me. And I still love you Jon even though you said on Twitter that I could come to set or something after the movie announcement since I’m such a major Jem fan… And that brings us to our last trailer highlight – another major Jen fan. Just watch.
