While some of the biggest celebrities like Selena Gomez, Zac Efron, and Dove Cameron all got their start on the Disney Channel and eventually broke away to make BIG names for themselves, the Jonas Brothers on the other hand had trouble breaking away from their Disney roots.
What’s up guys? It’s Sussan Mourad here with Clevver News and we’re here to talk about how the Jonas Brothers are saying their Disney beginnings made it tough for people to take them seriously as a real band.
In all seriousness though, we all know the J brothers blew up from their Disney channel original movies back in 2008 and then they even got their own Disney series called “Jonas.”
But since then, Nick, Joe, and Kevin have left Disney behind to pursue more mature music careers.
Originally Nick went solo, Joe joined DNCE, and Kevin started a family… but now the Jonas Brothers are back together and it’s been the best reunion we could’ve ever dreamed of.
In a recent interview with Wonderland magazine the boys opened up about how their past on Disney has created some challenges in their careers since.
Joe said QUOTE, “We have a lot to thank Disney for… But of course as you get older and you’re a young adult and you’re still on the Disney Channel, that can feel a little uncomfortable.”
And so while they are grateful for their Disney experience, they felt a little boxed in.
Joe also revealed that QUOTE, “Creatively, you can feel like you’re a little boxed in and you can’t really expand and grow. Lyrically, what you’re going through in that time in your life, you have to kind of protect your audience by only writing what Disney would approve. It was a little bit tricky as we got older, that’s for sure.”
And they also feel like it has made it hard for people to take them seriously as the new grown up adult Jonas brothers they are now.
Nick said quote, “It was tough for us when we felt like people had one perception of who we were and stories we were going to tell. I think just generally, Disney exposure made it tough for people to accept us as a real band at times.”
So while they may feel like it was a challenge, they seemed to overcome it no problem.
Their new J-Bro era song Sucker topped the Billboard Hot 100 and their music video has almost 150 million views.
Soo, in case you were at all worried, I think the Jonas Brothers are doing just fine.
And to be honest, we remember those Camp Rock days fondly.
Who else also lost it when Nick tweeted that he should’ve worn a Camp Rock inspired outfit to the Met Gala given the camp theme!?
I mean, that would’ve been epic.
Alright guys, now I want to hear from you. Do you think starting on Disney makes it hard to transition into a more mature career path? Or do you think it’s a great launch pad for a celeb?
