Jonathan Van Ness Recalls The Day He Was Diagnosed With HIV

Queer Eye’s Jonathan Van Ness is literally an open book, he is opening up about the day he found out he was HIV-positive to shed light on the HIV-positive community.
What’s up? It’s Emile Ennis Jr. here with Clevver News and in his new book Jonathan Van Ness AKA JVN opens up about his HIV-positive diagnosis and the dreadful moment he found out his status.
In his new book, Over The Top, he gets candid about his experience with sexual abuse, drug addiction, and his health.
He recalls back to a time in his early 20s, when he was working on a client's hair at his St. Louis salon and he suddenly fainted.
This morning Jonathan was on the Today show and spoke to Hoda Kotb about his new book and the day he was diagnosed. He said quote, “I was trying to push through. I had not been feeling amazing…and the next thing I knew, I was on my back on the ground and I was like, ‘Where am I? This doesn't feel good.”
He revealed that the next day, he went to Planned Parenthood and found out he was HIV-positive.
JVN continued on and said quote, “I was born in 1987, so growing up in the midst of the HIV/AIDS crisis…We lost an entire generation of people.”
And today Jontathan’s HIV is undetectable in his blood thanks to medication and regular doctor's appointments. And, let’s be real, there is no denying he's better than ever.
And that he certainly is. Thriving would be an understatement.
And Jonathan is proud of how far he’s come and can’t wait for others to hear his story.
He said quote, “It feels kind of Twilight Zone-ish but I do have this very calm sense of, I did this for a reason and I stand by those reasons. I think it is really important for me to speak about the things I've talked about in this book.”
And his celebrity friends are totally here for him and support how vulnerable and honest he is being.
Jonathan posted on his Instagram that he is quote, “relieved I can speak fully about the things that shape my experience in life.”
And Sports Illustrated model Hunter McGrady said quote, “This was so incredible to wake up to and read. Thank you for sharing your story. You are making so many feel less alone. ❤️”

And many fans on Twitter agree. And another fan brought up another reason why Jonathan sharing his story is so important. And once Jonathan’s book tour ends he already has plans. He wants to focus on what really matters, his gymnastics.
He wants to land that standing back handspring full twisting layout. He said quote, “It's really the goal right now.” And that’s why we love him so much. But I want to know what you guys think.
