Kendall Jenner is facing some major backlash over her recent comments about the modeling industry. Love Magazine posted a topless shot of the 22-year-old with a snippet of an upcoming interview for the mag's 10th anniversary issue, and it was revealing in more ways than one.
Kendall told the magazine QUOTE: "Since the beginning we've been super selective about what shows I would do. I was never one of those girls who would do, like, 30 shows a season or whatever the f*ck those girls do. More power to 'em. But I had a million jobs, not only catwalks but everything else. The whole combination was very overwhelming, and I started to freak out a little bit and needed to take a step back."
She also said she was QUOTE: "on the verge of a mental breakdown," which caused her to sit out much of Fashion Week.
When fellow models caught wind of Kendall's comments, they were not happy. The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star has been called out on more than one occasion for not having to work as hard as other models, and her own words seemed to further prove that point.
Russian model Daria Strokous posted a screenshot of the post on her Instagram story and went off on Kendall. She wrote QUOTE: “'Whatever the f*ck those girls do' is do their very best to make their way up AND try to make some money so that they can provide for themselves and their families. Oh, and it's 70 shows a season by the way. And we all are f*cking proud of every single one of the girls that did it."
Daria wasn't the only one to publicly criticize Kendall for her comments; lots of other models called her out as well, including British model Leomie Anderson. She tweeted QUOTE: “I’m shocked but not surprised by this attitude. Not everyone gets to skip castings, get paid more than everyone else and generally work less- it’s not about being “selective”, it’s about not having to put the work in but still receiving all the campaigns and editorials.”
Kendall eventually responded to the backlash with a series of tweets. She explained that her words were taken out of context and that she meant it as a compliment to her fellow models.
She wrote QUOTE: “I was misrepresented in a recent interview over the wknd & it’s important to clarify the meaning. It was intended to be entirely complimentary but unfortunately, my words were twisted & taken out of context. I want to be clear. The respect that I have for my peers is immeasurable! I get to experience first hand their tireless commitment, their work ethic, the endless days, the lack of sleep, separation from family and friends, stress of traveling, the toll on physical and mental health, yet they still make it all look effortless and beautiful. I’m inspired by so many of these people I have had the good fortune to work alongside! There’s no way I could EVER hate on that ❤️ I want everyone to win. SLAY ALWAYS. Cultivate kindness today and always.”
Her comments did sound super harsh, but it doesn’t seem like she meant to be shady. Or did she? Let us know what you think about Kendall’s comments down below, and thanks for watching Clevver News. Please click to the right to watch another new video, and don't forget to subscribe to our channels.
