#KiniNews: Anwar tables Budget 2025 for the ‘85pct’; Govt to draft new law for 'house arrest'

[KiniNews] Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has tabled his coalition government’s third fiscal plan for the nation in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Anwar, who is also finance minister, said Budget 2025 will further drive economic growth and ensure justice for the people.

Among others, Anwar announced an increase in cash aids, special allowances for civil servants and pensioners, an expansion of a more progressive Sales and Services Tax as well as details on the long-awaited subsidy rationalisation programme for RON95 petrol.

He also indicated that the government has plans to draft a new law to allow “house arrest” as an alternative punishment for selected offences.

This was included in a portion of his budget speech that focused on “second chances”.

He did not verbally announce this in the Dewan Rakyat but the plans were included in the printout of his Budget 2025 speech released by the Finance Ministry.
