You may still be strung out on Gaga’s Super Bowl Performance, but you haven’t seen strung out until you see “John Wayne.”
She’s a girl on FIRE and she’s not planning on stopping any time soon. Just days after performing the second most watched Super Bowl halftime show in the history of Super Bowl halftime shows, Lady Gaga has just surprised fans once again with a brand new music video for her newest single “John Wayne” off of her recent album Joanne.
The video for the country-inspired track was released just this morning exclusively on Apple Music, and to give fans a taste of what they’re missing out on if they aren’t subscribed to Apple Music, Gaga tweeted a teaser for the video, saying “I’M STRUNG OUT ON #JOHNWAYNE! Surprise! Next #JOANNE music video out now exclusively on @AppleMusic #GagaJohnWayne.” Check it out:
In the connecting video that picks up right where her previous single “Million Reasons” leaves off, Gaga channels her inner bad-girl while singing about a doomed love affair, while giving us a bit of “Bad Romance” vibes. She’s seen wearing outrageous skyscraper heels, black leather and barely there two-piece attire, and really, is there anything this girl can’t pull off?
Many have eluded to the subtle hints in this song being about Gaga’s breakup with Taylor Kinney, who’s portrayed as your not-so-typical city boy, but instead a rugged country man AKA “John Wayne”, where fans have pointed out that Taylor is from Pennsylvania, and rides a motorcycle, just like in the video. The emotion in the song is also very intense, which Gaga hinted at when she called Taylor her soul mate as they go through life’s ups and downs and attempt to find their way back together.
Although she didn’t perform the track during the Super Bowl, she previously featured “John Wayne” during her 3-stop Dive Bar Mini tour last fall, and more recently debuted the pop-rock anthem during the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in December. And we can most likely look forward to hearing much more of “John Wayne” come Gaga’s Joanne World Tour, kicking off August 1st, and is set to stop in North America, South America and Europe, so you probably won’t want to miss out on this one.
