Ed Sheeran reveals he quit Twitter over bullying from internet trolls, and more specifically Little Monsters.
And Lady Gaga has come running to his defense.
While we personally can’t imagine why anyone would bully the songwriting genius that is Ed Sheeran, he’s had enough. Ed has said goodbye to his 19 million followers on Twitter and explained why to The Sun saying QUOTE, “I’ve actually come off Twitter completely. I can’t read it. I go on it and there’s nothing but people saying mean things. Twitter’s a platform for that. One comment ruins your day. But that’s why I’ve come off it. The head-f*ck for me has been trying to work out why people dislike me so much.”
While there are probably more people that adore Ed than DISLIKE him, the haters can sometimes drown out the positive noise. Ed went further to explain where the bully started from, “Lady Gaga’s fanbase read an interview in which they assumed I was talking about her and the all f*cking hate. And it wasn’t anything to do with that at all.”
Earlier this year Ed did an interview with Beats Radio 1 where he said QUOTE, “I do not want to be the kind of artist who has had two successful albums and then feels invincible...I do not want to do the Super Bowl years later, after my biggest success, just to prove I’m still relevant.” While he didn’t name Gaga by name, Little Monsters thought he was talking about Lady Gaga who headlined the Super Bowl earlier this year.
Gaga, who created the Born This Way Foundation to campaign against all forms of harassment, has now responded. Mother Monster posted a photo alongside Ed on her Instagram and in her caption Gaga pleaded with her Little Monsters, “What an incredible talented artist I LOVE ED. @teddysphotos deserves all our love and respect like all humans do. I wish all people on the internet would be positive and loving and apart of creating an online community that is kind and empowering, not hateful and mean. No reason to tear down an artist simply because they are on top. Work harder to be kinder everyday. That should be your first duty to humanity.”
Kind words from Lady Gaga and a great message for all. No word if and when Ed will return to Twitter but hopefully this isn’t goodbye forever.
