Anwar Ibrahim claimed that the authorities did not pursue the findings of a police investigation with regard to a report he had filed in September 2013.
The police report concerned an allegation that Anwar and his late lawyer Karpal Singh had bribed the judiciary.
Testifying at the Kuala Lumpur High Court in his defamation suit today, the former opposition leader claimed that police investigations had cleared him of having a bank account in Singapore.
Anwar, who also named Sistem Televisyen Malaysia Bhd and Utusan Malaysia as defendants, said Mazlan, who now chairs the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), did not take action despite knowing he (Anwar) did not have such an account.
On Aug 2, 2013, former BN candidate for Permatang Pauh Mazlan Ismail held a press conference where he claimed to have received 6,000 copies of a poison pen letter from a staff at Karpal's law firm on the matter.
This was reported by TV3 and Utusan Malaysia.
Following this, both Anwar and Karpal lodged police reports under Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation.
