Lawyer Syahredzan Johan said that the Official Secrets Act has to be repealed and replaced with a Freedom of Information Act.
He said the OSA has no place in modern society and for transparency the OSA has to be removed.
He added that there may be instances where information has to restricted and kept secret such as on defence but this should be clearly defined and be able to be challenged in court.
He was speaking at a forum titled Official Secrets Act: Time to review or repeal? yesterday night.
