Liam Payne recently admitted in an interview with UK’s The Sun, he was not in a good place mentally when One Direction was at their peak. He spoke about “acting happy” while he was on tour and that when he was performing with a smile it was like wearing a costume. He said quote, “I shouldn’t have been able to do as many shows as we did, if I’m honest about it, if I’m brutally honest about it. Going out and putting that happy smile on my face and singing the songs, honestly, sometimes it was like putting on one of those costumes, going out there and, underneath the costume, people don’t really see what’s going on.”
He also admitted to one of his roughest times in 2015 when 1D cancelled a concert in Belfast. At the time the band said it was because Liam wasn’t feeling well, which is true but he now says it was due to severe heartache after breaking up with his then girlfriend Sophia Smith.
Liam isn’t the first former directioner to be open and honest about his mental health struggle. Louis Tomlinson recently admitted how hard it was for him to wrap his mind around the fame.
Thankfully, Liam is in a good place now. He said at the end of the interview that making solo music is helping him feel more grounded. He also is in a healthy relationship with Cheryl Cole and has beautiful baby Bear. Now I want to hear from you guys. What are your thoughts on Liam opening up about his struggles?
