Miley Cyrus DEFENDS Her Comments About Hip Hop Music On Instagram

Miley Cyrus is doing some major damage control via Instagram after her quotes from a recent interview about the hip-hop genre left many fans rather unsettled and outraged.
Another year, another load of backlash for Miley, but this time, we’ll let her recent Instagram post do all the talking.
Miley Cyrus shocked the world when her recent interview with Billboard magazine was released, featuring what looked like the old country-loving, long-haired, cowboy-boots wearing Miley that we all know and love. But what fans found even more shocking was Miley’s interview with Billboard in which part of the interview focused on new music that Miley is set to release this week, along with quotes that insinuated cultural appropriation to the hip-hop genre.
When talking about types of music she likes, Miley revealed to Billboard that she loves Kendrick Lamar’s new track “Humble” because it doesn’t objectify women. She said QUOTE, “I can't listen to that anymore. That's what pushed me out of the hip-hop scene a little. It was too much ‘Lamborghini, got my Rolex, got a girl on my cock’ – I am so not that.”
Having been the center of cultural appropriation accusations in the past, fans weren’t all that pleased to hear such harsh critique to a genre she had once spoken so highly of in the past when working with major hip hop artists and producers like Mike Will Made It, Future and French Montana, among many.
Miley quickly got word of the backlash once Billboard released the full interview, to which she responded with a lengthy Instagram post clearing the air. She started out by saying QUOTE, “When articles are read it isn't always considered that for hours I've spoken with a journalist about my life, where my heart is, my perspective at that time, and the next step in my career. Unfortunately only a portion of that interview makes it to print, & a lot of the time publications like to focus on the most sensationalized part of the conversation.”
Miley went on to say that to be clear, she respects ALL artists and ALL genres of music, and that “At this point in my life I am expanding personally/musically and gravitating more towards uplifting, conscious rap! As I get older I understand the effect music has on the world & Seeing where we are today I feel the younger generation needs to hear positive powerful lyrics! I am proud to be an artist without borders and thankful for the opportunity to explore so many different styles/ sounds!”
She ended her post by saying QUOTE, “I hope my words (sung or spoken) always encourage others to LOVE.... Laugh.... Live fully.... to be there for one another... to unify, and to fight for what's right (human , animal , or environmental ) Sending peace to all! Look forward to sharing my new tunes with you soon!”
