When Natalie Portman and Ron Howard went on stage to announce the nominees for best director at the 2018 Golden Globes, Natalie called out the award show for not nominating a single female director. Take a look.
Oof, I know. But I, as well as many celebrities absolutely loved the fact Natalie took a stand. Like, Shonda Rhimes who tweeted, "Natalie Portman calls it for what it is.” Gina Rodriguez also got in on the fun with a gif, writing QUOTE “Natalie Portman dropping the truth like #timesup” Even Mindy Khaling showed her support by simply tweeting, “YAS NATALIE GET EM GIRL”
Natalie’s tongue in cheek remark was the perfect cherry on top to an evening filled with rallying cries for gender equality and the times up organization. Though all of the male director nominees were very worthy of their nomination, Natalie was simply pointing out that quite a few female directors had been snubbed. Such as, Patty Jenkins for Wonderman, Dee Rees for Mudbound, and of course, Greta Gerwig for Lady Bird, which ended up winning best comedy.
