And we thought Miley was the controversial one!
Noah Cyrus released the music video for her single ‘Again’ late last week. The spooky song is a mix of alternative pop and R&B and the video fittingly takes place in a graveyard.
But the reason it’s causing so much conversation isn’t because she’s singing around a bunch of tombstones.
It’s because she collaborated with XXXTentacion who is currently in the middle of a trial for sexual and physical abuse.
He got out of prison in March and is currently on probation after he was charged with home invasion and battery with a firearm to which he plead no contest.
But more notably he was arrested and charged with aggravated battery of a pregnant woman, domestic battery by strangulation and forced imprisonment from an incident with his girlfriend at the time, to which he pled not guilty.
The report from her camp stated in part QUOTE, “Victim’s eyes [were] punched to where both eyes became shut and victim could not not see,”
He took to his Intagram story two weeks ago to responded to the claims in such a graphic and heinous manner that we can’t even repeat.
So when Noah announced her song featuring the rapper, fans were disappointed.
One tweeting, “The new Noah Cyrus song is so fucking good ... it's a shame I can't support it because it features XXXTentacion”
And another said, “Whoever approved of the Noah Cyrus/XXXtentacion collab is clearly working really hard to ruin her career”
It’s extremely hard to believe Noah Cyrus could have known about any of this, and it’s quite possible that the 142 pages of his victim’s testimony weren’t released at the time of recording the song.
In cases like these it’s hard to know if Noah specifically wanted him to feature on her song, or if her record label matched the pair up.
And Noah isn’t alone here, around the same time Ansel Elgort tweeted QUOTE, “We do love you xxxtentacion you’re an artist.” but quickly deleted it when the abuse allegations were pointed out to him.
Perhaps Noah will release a statement regarding the backlash, but until then we want to hear from you. Do you think she’ll say anything about the collaboration? What are your thoughts on musicians working with controversial artists? Let us know in the comments below. Thanks for watching Newsfeed, I’m your host Ava Gordy and we’ll see you guys next time!
