For the older generation the clay or plaster piggy banks of various characters have a lasting impression of the good old days when saving small change was encourage at a young age. That tradition of saving is kept alive by this 20 year old piggy bank factory in Ijok, Kuala Selangor. This video  interviews Ah Fatt and  showcases the awesome designs that have been around for generations plus newer ones such as post boxes and even gas cylinders amongst over 50-60 designs with each priced just between RM7-15. The process in making these curio objects of art takes days with getting the right materials, moulding, baking in the oven, then spraying the colours one by one.
Even the raw clay has to be cleaned and sieved thoroughly before putting it into the various moulds.
Yet these piggy banks are priced very affordable. You can find them in older neighbourhood pottery shops, shops selling plastic wares or household ware dealers. Indeed it's a simple way to encourage a good habit from young. During school holidays school kids visit the factory and are always thrilled to see these piggy banks. It is a "habit breaker" for lottery punters. It encourages them to put their "bets" into this kitty and get a big jackpot when it is full ! It's the thrill of smashing it up when it is full to enjoy the long effort !
