Louis Tomlinson drops “Back to You” single and explains why he chose Bebe Rexha to be featured on the song.
Today’s episode is presented by T-Mobile - America’s Best Unlimited Network.
Louis Tomlinson’s has dropped his first official single as a solo artist, and we’re already obsessed.
“Back to You” is Louis’s first official single as a solo artist and features Bebe Rexha. Louis previously sung on Steve Aoki’s “Just Hold On,” but “Back to You” is our first taste of what Louis Tomlinson The Solo Singer sounds like. And no surprise here--we’ve already got the music video playing on repeat.
The song starts with Bebe singing as opposed to Louis, and when asked why it wasn’t the other way around, Louis told the BBC QUOTE, “We recorded a version where I sang first – but you’ve got to do what’s best by the song. With the emotion she gives it, and the way she opens up the song, it always had to be her, really.”
Louis also explained where those honest and emotional lyrics came from, telling BBC Radio 1’s Breakfast Show QUOTE, “We all know those people where you probably shouldn't be together but you just keep finding your way back to each other. It kind of stood out to me...and it's kind of something, even melodically, that feels different to what I would normally do." Um, you can say that again, and it’s definitely not a bad thing.
Louis admitted he’s nervous about how fans will react to his decision to pull away from the kind of pop songs he performed with One Direction, but knows that writing lyrics that tell stories that are honest and to the point--and even controversial--is the kind of artist he wants to be. Don’t worry Louis, I’m sure all your fans can get behind that. Especially if your other songs are as good as “Back to You”.
