Mendes Army REJOICE because Shawn Mendes’ new single was just released today and there is NOTHING holding us back from rocking out to this banger all freaking day.
What a great day to be alive, and no, I am not referring to the convenience of today’s date, but because Shawn Mendes has once again graced us with the gift of music.
It may have only been a few months since Shawn Mendes wrapped his world tour, but it appears that the singer ‘can’t stop, won’t stop’ seeing that he just released a brand new single called “There’s Nothing Holding Me Back” but unlike many of his other singles, this track is much more upbeat, and is mostly likely one of those stuck-in-your-head-all-day kind of tracks, and if you don’t believe me, feel free to hear for yourself:
Shawn also talked about the inspiration behind the catchy tune, saying QUOTE, “I wanted to make sure we released something going into the tour and summer. I wanted to make something that could play in the clubs, that people could dance to at parties. I realized I never had that in my catalog.”
He goes on to note that with the empty space after the chorus, he used a mini guitar that sounds similar to a ukulele while imagining a sound similar to what Timbaland would use circa early 2000s, adding, “I went over to my buddy and was like, ‘I’m just going to play this.’ It ended up sounding so badass. It sounds like something you’d hear on an old Justin Timberlake record, right?”
SO RIGHT. But not only is Shawn hard at work on his next album, he’s also about to embark on an all-arena tour expanding across a total of five continents. He recently dished to Entertainment Weekly about being hard at work creating new music, saying that he’s “deep, deep, deep” into the planning phase, which happens naturally every time he’s on the road.
He joked that he doesn’t have much of an ‘off switch’ when he’s not touring, saying QUOTE, “It’s become a little bit of a problem when I go home. Sometimes I should really go out and hang out with my friends, but what happens is I get really inspired and then just go and mess around on the computer. Whether it becomes a song or not, I just need to get it out of me.”
