Day one of the One Direction hiatus is here. But before their break, 1D took the stage for one final performance right where it all began… on the X Factor UK.
We’ve got a lot of “History” with One Direction, but nothing could prepare us for the emotional roller coaster that was the final day of 1D…for now.
Before 1D performed on the X Factor UK finale, Simon Cowell introduced a special video that included messages for the band from Little Mix, 5 Seconds of Summer, David Beckham and more. Take a look.
Then, One Direction sang their sentimental song, “History.” During the performance, photos showing how much the boys have grown and changed over the last five years were displayed on a huge screen behind them. No, I’m not crying. It’s fine. I’m totally fine.
Afterwards, One Direction posted this special video message to their fans.
Plus, all the boys took to their personal Twitter accounts to thank their fans. Liam Payne posted an especially funny tweet Monday morning, saying, “Off to the job centre … Hope it all works out.” As many Directioners recognized, this was a nod to a tweet Niall posted back in 2010 when he applied for X Factor.
Shortly after, Liam followed up, “Just kidding … Honestly thank you so much to everyone look at all the amazing things we have done together like WTF man.”
And after 1D had basically left us lying in a puddle of emotions, they decided to hit us right in the feels again by making “History” their new single. This literally feels like an attack.
The band tweeted, “Your reaction to #1DHistory has been INCREDIBLE! The guys have decided to change it to the new single from #MadeInTheAm!”
So, will the One Direction we know and love return at the end of their break? Luckily, all signs point to yes.
Niall Horan tweeted, “Can’t thank you enough to be honest. Don’t worry, we’ll be back. Looking forward to chilling for a while now.”
