Logic, Khalid, and Alessia Cara clearly know what a huge social impact their hit song has had on the world, and their performance at tonight’s Grammy show reflected that fact. All three gave a beautiful and impassioned rendition of their suicide prevention song, 1-800-273-8255, which is named after the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
Logic opened the number and was joined by Alessia later for her verse, with Khalid joining the pair later for his part towards the end of the song. All three were surrounded by suicide survivors and the family members of suicide victims as they closed out the performance.
After finishing the song, Logic gave a timely spoken-word performance, all about inclusivity, feminism, and breaking down barriers.
Logic also defended immigrants and even shaded President Trump’s recent “sh*t-hole countries” comment in his poem, saying QUOTE, “To all the beautiful countries filled with culture and diversity and thousands of years of history, you are not sh*tholes...I say unto you, bring us your tired, your poor, and any immigrant who seeks refuge, for together, we can build not just a better country, but a world that is destined to be united.”
Many other artists also used their Grammy platform as a way to give a voice to all kinds of social issues at this year’s show, from immigration to the Time’s Up movement. It made for one helluva great night, and we can’t wait to see all these artists continue to push for progress in these areas with their music and their voices in 2018.
