So Gaga may not have won Best Original Song at this year’s Oscars but her performance won over our hearts.
Introduced by her pal VP Joe Biden, Lady Gaga performed her original song written by Diane Warren for the movie The Hunting Ground called Till It Happens to You. The song opened looking into a photo of Gaga in white sitting at a white piano. The simple setting was elegant matching her powerful vocals. Gaga was belting her heart out and jamming on the keys when violin players came in and elevated the already powerful tone of the performance. It looked the whole time as if Gaga was on the verge of tears, as she poured her soul onto the stage. Our hearts broke when Mother Monster looked straight into the camera singing directly at us. Then the song’s message came in loud and clear when a screen rose and silhouetted sexual abuse victims appeared behind her.
The performers walked up to meet Gaga near the piano and then remained motionless throughout the performance. We see the casually dressed victims have honest messages written on their arms such as “Not your fault”, “It happened to me” and “You are loved.” The song ended with Gaga standing amongst the victims, joining hands, and raising them up in the air together. The star studded audience gave the emotionally charged performance a standing ovation as Gaga fought back tears. After the performance Gaga posted this photo on social media of her and fiance Taylor Kinney writing, “I never thought anyone would ever love me because I felt like my body was ruined by my abuser. But he loves the survivor in me. He’s stood by me all night proud and unashamedly. THATS a real man.” Brilliantly said Gaga. Did you guys like the statement Gaga made in her Oscars performance? And do you think she should have won Best Original Song- which went to Sam Smith? Leave a comment, then check out the best and worst dressed from this years Academy Awards right there.
