Lady Gaga’s Joanne era might’ve come and gone, but she was sure to send off her fourth consecutive Grammy performance by honoring her late aunt with one heck of a moving show. She took the stage in the middle of the arena tonight with nothing but a piano covered in white angel wings while performing a somber rendition of her hit “Joanne”.
Before belting out the track, Gaga said QUOTE, “This is for my father’s sister, Joanne. This is for love and compassion, even when you can’t understand.” But it wasn’t until halfway through the performance when Gaga received a roar of applause after switching gears and belting out her smash hit single “Million Reasons” with a subtle shout out to the Time’s Up Movement.
Last Friday also marked the premiere of the “Joanne” music video, to which Gaga introduced a much more stripped-down version of the track, and even made a generous donation to the Lupus Research Alliance which her aunt passed away from when she was only 19.
Gaga is currently in the middle of her Joanne World Tour, which wraps next month and is also prepping for the release of her upcoming film A Star is Born AND her very own Las Vegas residency, so needless to say, there will be plenty more show-stopping performances like tonight’s Grammys to come.
But right now, I gotta hear all your thoughts on Gaga’s stunning performance, so get to talking down here in the comments, and after that, you can click right over here for a full rundown of all the best dressed from tonight’s Grammy Awards.
