Rihanna's ANTI Album Only Sold 460 Copies- But Still A Success?

Rihanna’s new album ANTI was certified platinum, but did not top the Billboard charts after selling less than 1,000 units.
Now it’s not as bad as it sounds when you factor in the amount of streams and singles sales ANTI racked in but as far as full album sales are concerned, the numbers weren’t the highest.
Let’s do some math here. According to Nielson’s report, Anti was under the 1,000 mark in units, but further reports revealed that the album had over 4.2 million streams with 126,00 singles sold. However in regard to album sales, a Tidal user told the New York Times that only 460 copies have been purchased in full. Therefore this places the album at number 27 for its first week on the Billboard charts.
A Tidal representative explained the situation further to the Times saying that the album’s chart placement is due to the fact that the Samsung giveaway ended before the album was released on Thursday. The week where the numbers are tallied ended at midnight on Thursday so that left a small window of time for sales to pour in before the deadline. However the platinum certification came from the Samsung partnership that gave away one million downloads to fans. Unfortunately, Billboard does not factor in giveaways so that didn’t help the numbers, but despite it all, Rihanna landed the top spot on iTunes’ internal charts.
