After being named as a "better" candidate to lead the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), Youth and Sports minister Khairy Jamaluddin today said all federal ministers are prevented from running for any positions in local sports associations.
"There is a Cabinet ruling preventing a federal minister from running for any positions in a sports association.
"So any minister who wants to hold positions in local sports associations, they must obtain permission from the prime minister or Cabinet before running for any posts," he told reporters after closing Bank Negara Malaysia's Finance Carnival in Kuala Lumpur.
The Rembau MP said this when asked for comments on Utusan Malaysia's Awang Selamat column today naming him as a contender for FAM's presidency, amid an ongoing spat between Johor crown prince Tunku Ismail Ibrahim and Kelantan Football Association (Kafa) adviser Annuar Musa.
