He may have proved during the Notebook days circa 2004 that he is indeed an onscreen romancer, but tonight, Ryan just confirmed all of our hopes and dreams IRL.
Ryan Gosling received quite the honor tonight during the 2017 Golden Globes, as he took home the award for best actor in a comedy or musical for his performance in La La Land, but his touching acceptance speech alone could’ve scored him a second Globe, as it left viewers in practical puddles of tears.
Beating out other A-Listers Colin Farrell, Jonah Hill, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Grant, Ryan took the stage to collect his award, kicking off his speech on a lighthearted note, joking that QUOTE, “This isn’t the first time I’ve been mistake with Ryan Reynolds, but it’s getting out of hand.” After a sea of laughter from the audience, Ryan also went on to thank his costar Emma Stone and the film’s director Damien Chazelle, adding that although there just isn’t enough time to thank everyone, he would like to try and thank one very important person in particular.
Hearts around the world immediately melted as Ryan then gave a very special shout out to his partner of nearly five years and the mother of his two daughters, Eva Mendes, saying QUOTE, “While I was singing and dancing and playing piano and having one of the best experiences I’ve ever had on a film, my lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second, and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer.” But don’t put those tissues away just yet, because it just keeps getting sweeter and sweeter…
If that doesn’t just tug at your heartstrings enough, Ryan closed out his speech, giving one final shout out to Eva’s brother, saying, “And if I may, I’d like to dedicate this to the memory of her brother, Juan Carlos Mendes. Thank you very much.”
I’ve gotta give mad respect to Ryan Gosling… this award tonight was well-deserved by such an outstanding actor and more importantly, an all-around genuine guy, but right now I gotta know all your thoughts on Ryan’s emotional acceptance speech, so get to talking right down here in the comments, and after that, don’t forget to click right over here to check out which other A-Listers scored big with our full winner’s recap.
