Meryl Streep receives the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes and makes some not so suttle jabs at Donald Trump during her acceptance speech
When Meryl Streep takes the stage everyone grows silent.. and we all listen and boy did she have some powerful words to share
Meryl Streep took the opportunity, while all eyes were on her, to enlighten, move, and motivate all who were watching with her words and her passion. She started off her speech by thanking the Hollywood Foreign Press but then goes on to say, who makes up the HFP? And says everyone who comes to Hollywood is an outsider, from different backgrounds. She says quote, “Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners, and if you kick us all out, you’ll have nothing to watch except for football and mixed martial arts, which are not arts.” She never actually makes mention of president elect Donald Trumps name.. but you know who she was talking about. Keeping with her serious tone she also mentioned how the president elect mocked a disabled reporter saying quote, “it sank hooks in her heart.”
Streeps speech was certainly direct and moving, specifically at the very end when she mentions and quotes her late friend Carrie Fisher by saying, “ As my friend, the dearly departed Princess Leia said to me, take your broken heart, make it into art. Thank you friend.”
