Gina Rodriguez accepter her first ever Golden Globe for Best Actress in a TV Comedy for her new series, Jane the Virgin, and of course, Clevver’s Trophy Life is bringing you the full recap!
Was it just us, or did Gina’s speech have you guys reaching for the tissues?
After receiving many hugs and praise from the adoring audience, she made it on stage, caught her breath, and thanked God for making her an artist. She delivered a speech filled with passion and gratitude. Take a look:
We’ll spare you the tears, as that was just a quick glimpse into her speech. However, she did go on to say, “This award is so much more than myself. It represents a culture that wants to see themselves as heroes.”
But the real heartfelt moment in Gina’s speech was at the very end when she thanked her father for always believing in her, saying, “My dad used to tell me to wake up each day and say, ‘I can and I will.’ Well, dad, today’s a great day. I can and I did!” Now, was it just us, or were you able to actually feel the emotion and pure gratitude expressed in her speech? I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing her, and the same passion and graciousness she exemplified tonight is how she is in person. The girl glows form the inside out.
And good news, Jane the Virgin fans! The laugh-out-loud comedy has been renewed for a full second season, so if you haven’t checked out the first season yet, you may want to get to it… And trust us when we say, you won’t regret it!
