Police are still in the process of ascertaining the identity of a man who took a child hostage during a standoff at Taman Telipok Ria in Tuaran, Sabah on Sunday. Sabah police commissioner Datuk Omar Mammah said that throughout the five-hour standoff, the suspect had only said one word, which was "Rashid". He said they are trying to find out who is Rashid and how is he connected to this incident.
