WAO launches 'Where's the Child? The Rights of Child Domestic Violence Survivor' report

The Women Aid Organisation launched a report to highlight the experiences of child domestic violence survivors in Malaysia and underscore the need for child rights to be integrated into domestic violence response.
Deputy Women, Community and Family Development Minister Hannah Yeoh, who launched the rights group latest report in Kelana Jaya today, revealed that a total of 26,314 child abuse cases were reported between 2013 and 2018.
She said victims could call the department's Talian Kasih hotline at 15999 and the Welfare Department is authorised to provide an Emergency Protection Order for domestic abuse victims within 24 hours of a report being lodged.
The WAO report strives to help the reader understand the current legal framework and available protection mechanisms for child survivors of domestic violence. It also seeks to help the reader understand the experiences of child survivors in enduring domestic violence and seeking assistance to escape it.
