During a ComicCon interview, the cast was asked to do a musical recap of season 2. Star Jeremy Jordon took the lead on singing, and within 10 seconds had ripped apart SuperCorp – the ship name of SuperGirl and Lena Luther (the owner of L Corp)
The actor super duper emphasized that QUOTE THEY’RE ONLY FRIENDS / They’re not gonna get together, they’re only friends!” by looking straight into the camera and basically breaking tune. The rest of the cast erupted in laughter, knowing how common the ship of the two is.
Superfans were NOT happy about this, and the twittersphere went into a tizzy. Thousands of fans across the board were extremely disappointed about the joke, with one fan tweeting: QUOTE
@JeremyMJordan You really disappointed me with that song yesterday Seriously thanks for mocking us together with @MelissaBenoist
and another saying QUOTE @JeremyMJordan Dude, I know for you guys it's all light and fun, but mocking fans like that is really uncool. We, the fans of #Supercorp

The cast took note, and Jeremy Jordan posted a response on Instagram, apologizing to anyone who took the joke the wrong way and rebutting the accusations of homophobia saying QUOTE “my track record for years has proven my utter love and devotion to the LGBTQ community”. He continued saying, “please understand my comment was simply one part of a silly recap of the show…my interpretation of our story is one of many, and you know what? It’s just as valid.” He finished by acknowledging that he had made some of the fans feel really shitty, but that they did the same to him – however HE had done it untintentionally.?
Yeep. Fans were not happy with this apology, and responded with another flurry of tweets and posts, pointing out that the apology seemed insincere and that he really seemed to fail to grastp WHAT the fans were upset about.
One fan tweeted QUOTE “why are all of yall so dense that you think this is only about supercorp and not about f/f constantly being mocked””
And another pointed out that “but you, a straight person, have no right to say what is and what isnt homophobic or what might offend us queer people, you just don't.”
After the second twitter wrath, Jeremy Jordon issued a SECOND apology, this time acknowledging that he regretted joke, saying QUOTE “I would go back in time and redo my recap if I could. [and] I realize the issue of homophobia is bigger than any note I could ever write and many of you will never be satisfied. I didn’t do anything in that interview to champion the cause. I will do more. All I can do it be better. It’s all anyone can do”
Well, what do you think? Was the second apology sufficient? Were fans overreacting? What does it mean for an actor to debunk fan fiction that has a huge amount of supporters?
