Taylor Swift is getting grilled by singer Ryan Adams, where she opens up about a few of her songwriting strategies and the significance her own dreams had on writing her album.
So as if we didn’t already want to know what was going on in Taylor’s mind at all times, we’re getting a glimpse into her actual dreams, which have actually inspired a few major hits.
While on the set of her GQ photo shoot, Taylor sat down with Ryan Adams, who asked her all about the process of songwriting, including if she’s ever been inspired to write a song based on a dream she’s had, and given the fact that she takes inspiration from literally everywhere, her answer doesn’t surprise us in the very least.
She goes on to admit that she woke up feeling mortified, but also inspired by the chorus of people yelling “Stay!” that it was also a cool background vocal. She also talked about how her version of “All You Had To Do Was Stay” differed from Ryan’s cover of her song, by saying QUOTE, “My version of is it like, ‘All you had to do was stay. Sorry about it. I don’t miss you. And now you’re back.’ Yours is like, ‘All you had to do was stay. You broke my heart. That’s all you had to do.’”
Taylor also revealed that her phone’s notepad is full of random lyrics that inspire her, and when she goes to write a song, she groups lyrics together from over the past year to create a full song. And seeing that 1989 was written during Tay’s single life, some of those chart-topping singles you thought may have been written about her exes, might be all thanks to a few fictional characters.
Well she’s sure got a way of always keeping us guessing, and I’m thinking the mystery will never end. But I want to hear what you guys think about Taylor’s songwriting process, and the rest of her interview with Ryan so get to talking right down here in the comments section.
