Taylor Swift attended the 64th annual BMI Icon Awards last night where she tacked on two more awards to her collection for her work in the music industry and of course those No. 1 hits we know and love.
Another day, another T-Swift award sweep, buuuut this time she’s being honored with a little more than a nice shiny piece of hardware.
It’s pretty much assumed that whenever Taylor Swift attends an award show of any type, an award (or multiple awards) will end up in the palm of her hands by the end of the night, but not only did she receive two awards last night, an award was specially named in Taylor’s honor, and I mean, who better to receive the Taylor Swift award than Taylor Swift, amiright?
Girl’s got jokes! After receiving a standing ovation and being accompanied by her mom, dad and brother, Taylor accepted her award and praised legendary songwriters Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, where she also channeled her inner fangirl for their daughter saying QUOTE, “I recently have had a lot of time off. I've been watching a lot of reality TV.Barry and Cynthia's daughter Jenn is the couples therapist on a show called Couples Therapy that I watch a lot and I was really really excited to meet her."
And for all you non-reality TV watchers, Couple’s Therapy was also the series that attempted to mend the relationships of many celeb couples including previous Bachelor Juan Pablo and his then girlfriend Nikki Ferrell, Courtney Stodden and Doug Hutchison and many more.
Besides the Taylor Swift award, which recognized her creative and artistic talent and influence, she also snagged the BMI Songwriter of the Year award for four of her No. 1 singles off her 1989 album, including “Blank Space”, “Style”, “Wildest Dreams” and “Bad Blood.” And following in the footsteps of Michael Jackson circa 1990, this was only the second time in BMI’s 76 year run that an award was named after a deserving artist.
Quite the accomplishment, I must say, and I personally don’t know why this award wasn’t a thing much sooner, but I want to hear from you guys, and what you think about Taylor’s awards and also an award being literally named the Taylor Swift Award, so get to talking right down here in the comments section below.
