That’s right, you guys! Taylor Swift was totally slammed on Twitter for congratulating Diana Ross on her AMA win, because apparently, it just wasn’t her place!
To fill you in a bit, although Taylor did NOT make an appearance at the American Music Awards on Sunday night, she did manage to send along a video message for Diana Ross when she won the Lifetime Achievement Award. In the message, Tay said, QUOTE, “I don't personally know anyone in music who hasn't been inspired by you and influenced by you...You have paved the way for everyone who does what we do now, including me.” Sweet… right? Well, some people didn’t think so!
As with everything Taylor says or does, responses to her message for Diana were mixed, with some fans absolutely loving Tay’s shoutout, and others confused AF about why they couldn’t find someone else to do it… like maybe one of Diana’s peers?
Well, as always, Twitter sounded off immediately about Taylor’s video message. One twitter user wrote, “Diana Ross needs a video tribute message from Taylor Swift like a fish needs a bicycle,” while another added, “Watching ‪@taylorswift13‬ congratulating ‪@DianaRoss‬ is laughable. Aretha, Gladys, Patti, Dolly, Celine, Cher, Stevie, Barry may congratulate. They are her peers. You, darlin', can only thank her for paving the way & praise her for her talents. Period. Have several seats ma'am.” Wow… HARSH!
