Taylor Swift, Tana Mongeau & More Celebs STOLE Their VMAs Looks!

The VMAs are home to some of the most memorable and scandalous looks in red carpet history and tonight was no disappointment. But while many of the looks were daring, I’ve gotta say, I feel like I’ve seen some of them before.
What’s up? It’s Erin Robinson here with Clevver News and it’s my favorite night of the summer -- the VMAs!
Our favorite celebs showed up in some head-turning ensembles to close out hot girl summer and I was so here for it.
But some of these outfits are giving me a blast from the past, last time I checked it’s Monday not Throwback Thursday.
The first copy cat I caught was Tana Mongeau who showed up with an actual real life snake.
And while we know that Tana is no stranger to daring red carpet outfits like that dollar bill she wore to the Movie and TV Awards.
Did she have to bring an actual live snake?! That would’ve sent me running for the hills.
But it definitely called back to Britney Spears at the VMAs circa 2001.
You probably have seen Britney’s iconic performance of “I'm a Slave 4 U” with what looks like the exact same snake that Tana was holding tonight.
I feel like that snake might be getting more work than I am and I’m weirdly ok with it.
But oddly enough, that wasn’t the only snake on the red carpet.
H.E.R. also showed up with a snake and it seems like they both may have been honoring Britney.
And while we’re talking about getting some serious inspiration from another blast from the past.
And then there was THIS GUY who used Prince as his muse for tonight’s uhh outfit inspo.
Back in 1991, Prince wore almost the exact same, yellow, peach enhancing outfit to the VMAs.

And Miley Cyrus actually wore an equally revealing booty flaunting ensemble to the VMAs in 2015.
So it looks like this year’s celebs were going back into the VMA archives for this carpet which I can totally get on board with.
Another star who may have gotten some inspiration from another celeb’s red carpet moment is Keke Palmer, who walked the carpet with a sequin phone purse.
A la Lady Gaga at the Met Gala.
Gaga used the phone purse as a prop at the Met and Keke did the same tonight posing with the phone like she was talking on it.
Either she was calling Lady Gaga to say thanks for the inspiration or cell phone purses are just the new trend and I missed the memo.
And lastly, though she didn’t exactly copy anyone else from the past, I have to mention that Taylor Swift kinda sorta copied her own look from the Teen Choice Awards.
We saw her very Lover-inspired colorful Versace suit jacket at the TCA’s and tonight at the VMAs she wore a very similar Lover-inspired colorful Versace suit jacket.
But I’m not complaining. I would take Taylor in this look every day, she slayed.
And I loved the addition of the thigh high black boots this time.
