Imagine a world where there was no such thing as a feud between Katy Perry and Taylor Swift… having a hard time imagining that? Well that’s because apparently it doesn’t exist, and thanks to the Internet, even more dirt has been brought to the surface after Katy Perry released the promo for her dueling basketball game-themed music video for “Swish Swish.”
And seeing that we’re all well-aware of the alleged meaning behind the diss track, it only took a few short minutes for fans to come after Katy for the video’s unoriginality and similarity to Taylor’s “Bad Blood” music video. Some of the similarities fans were quick to notice was the two opposing sides, the slew of celeb appearances, and the fact that Katy subtly utilized the word ‘Catastrophe’, which if you recall, was Taylor’s alter ego name in “Bad Blood”.
One fan even went as far to circle the word in each of the promos, along with the fact that Katy is also treating the video as though she’s starring in a different role, just like Taylor.
And as we all know, the history of both of these songs has been the center of controversy for quite some time. Katy’s song is allegedly a response to “Bad Blood” which was released back in 2014, and it probably didn’t help when Taylor released all of her music on every streaming platform the same day Katy released her Witness album, so coincidence or shade, the world may never know.
BUT the burning question remains – through all the drama and Katy’s openness about wanting to make amends, it’s been rumored that the two will finally settle their differences on the VMA stage this coming weekend, but honestly, I don’t even know if the Internet has the capability to handle such thing.
During a recent interview with SiriusXM, Katy was asked about the rumored performance, buuut kinda sorta squashed fans hopes when she said, “Listen, I’d love for the beef to end. I’d love to take if off the BBQ. I’m down, but I haven’t heard anything of it.” I think I speak for all of us when I say I’m fully on board for this cookout to commence.
But speaking of this beef, the alleged VMA performance has also been tweeted and talked about many times via the Interwebs, as one fan was ALL of us, writing, “Here's to hoping news of Katy Perry and Taylor Swift making up and making music together. Lol. I dunno. A man can hope,” and another set the bar real high with another prediction, saying, “Taylor Swift will be appearing on Katy's new video swish swish bish: a thread.”
And seeing that Taylor seems to be up to something music-related via her Instagram, and the fact that she may be dropping new music as early as Friday, this theory isn’t too far from the truth. So Katy and Taylor, if you’re listening, DO US ALL A SOLID and put us out of our emotional exhaustion, and end this tiff once and for all, PLZ AND THANKS.
As for now, the countdown is on until this weekend’s VMAs, but I gotta know all your thoughts on this whole “Swish Swish” comparison – do you think it was a rip-off of “Bad Blood” or are people just adding more fuel to the fire? Let me know in the comments and after that, click right over here to get even more details on this whole Katy/Taylor rumor. Thanks for sticking it out on another news story about this feud, I’m Joslyn Davis, and I’m gonna go retire now.
