After 33 combined seasons of ABC’s hit series The Bachelor & Bachelorette, the first EVER black bachelorette has finally been cast, so major congrats are in order for Rachel Lindsay.
Wait… hold up… 33 combined seasons… THIRTY-THREE seasons it took to cast a black bachelorette? **looks at watch** Well, ABC, it’s about damn time!
Current show contestant Rachel Lindsay has officially accepted the offer (and probably a rose) to become ABC’s newest bachelorette for its 13th season. Hours before yesterday’s episode of Nick Viall’s current season of The Bachelor aired, many reports leaked online from sites including popular spoiler blog Reality Steve and Variety, with rumors that Texas attorney, Rachel, was officially cast as the show’s next leading lady.
The rumors were quickly confirmed, however, when Rachel appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live following last night’s episode, to deliver the good news, but not without a ‘dramatic’ introductory skit delivered by none other than current show host Chris Harrison with the help of Jimmy Kimmel…
The network has faced years of controversy (rightfully so) over the series’ lack of diversity, as the starring roles have had a pattern of going to white leads. Nick Viall’s current season contained the most diverse pool of contestants to date, with 22 being white and 8 being nonwhite. ABC Entertainment Group president Channing Dungey spoke about the issue, stating that it lies with the booking of candidates from the start of the show, since the next Bachelor or Bachelorette is usually a popular contestant chosen from the previous cycle.
Although Rachel has been one of this season’s favorites and front-runners, also earning the first-impression rose during this season’s premiere, many fans are upset with the network considering she is still in the running, and after last night’s episode, will be taking Nick to her hometown of Dallas, Texas, to meet her family.
Well, SPOILER ALERT – clearly that doesn’t go as planned, but whatever does happen between Rachel and Nick, we now know that her heart is out to find her forever once again, after she chatted with Kimmel and revealed that she is so ready to find her husband, so for all you eligible bachelors out there hoping to sweet this girl off her feet, listen up:
So here’s to hoping Rachel finds love this time around, but I want to know if you guys are as ready as Rachel is to watch her quest for love, and share all your thoughts on the big announcement so hit us up right down here in the comments and as always, be sure to hit that subscribe button.
