The most “controversial season of The Bachelorette,” as host Chris Harrison would say, has finally come to an end and Kaitlyn has found love in a hopeless place.
This was a dramatic season on the Bachelorette, and Kaitlyn has finally found love…hopefully
Wow, this season was full of tears, confessions and awkward encounters, and we finally know who the last man standing was.
If you haven’t tuned in yet for this finale, you may want to cover your ears because we’re breaking it down, spoilers and all! The episode kicked off with Kaitlyn and her two remaining beaus (Nick and Shawn) packing their bags in Utah to head back to the Bachelorette mansion in Malibu, where Kaitlyn will potentially become engaged.
Kaitlyn’s family awaited her arrival at the mansion. As a confident Nick steps out of the car, Kaitlyn warns him that her family knows about him and his past season antics with previous bachelorette Andi, in which Nick’s confidence is completely shot and the nervous sweats begin. He’s barely able to sit down and return to a normal breathing pattern when Kaitlyn’s family wastes no time and gets to grillin:
Nick also reveals to Kaitlyn’s father that he has fallen for “every part of her” which maaaay have been TMI considering their rendezvous in Dublin, BUT rest assured that after Nick and his shockingly charming ways assures the family that he, in fact, IS here for Kaitlyn, the family, especially Kaitlyn’s sister end up falling harder for Nick than Kaitlyn seemed to. To top off the notably uncomfortable family confrontation, Nick sends Kaitlyn away with an open-eyed kiss to seal the deal.
Next is Shawn’s turn to be put through the familial ringer. He comes prepared though, bearing an overwhelming amount of gifts, which immediately wins the family over. After chatting with the family, and receiving her father’s blessing, everyone has declared a side: #TeamShawn is in full effect.
Then come the final dates before the rose ceremony, where the only conversation had would be “Crazy that this is over, right?” “Yeah, I know, so weird!” Nick and Kaitlyn enjoy their remaining time on a yacht and Shawn and Kaitlyn endure the most awkward 5-word total date, while filling the awkward silences with wine chugging and nervous laughs. During the night portion of their date, Nick claims he has a gift for Kaitlyn in his bedroom, which left the millions of viewers with an unsettling feeling and a major flashback to their first date. When he gave Kaitlyn a framed photo of the two of them with a poem next to it, a huge sigh of relief was heard round Bachelor nation.
Shawn also gifted Kaitlyn with sweet memorabilia: A jar containing pictures and items from each of their dates together. The next morning, there is a knock at each of the suitor’s doors where they were greeted by Neil Lane and his suitcase filled with rings worth more my life savings and college tuition combined and doubled and then probably tripled. They each picked out a ring and continue to get dressed up to propose to the same girl.
Kaitlyn is stood in a stunning cream gown on a platform over the pool that half of her suitors drunkenly jumped into at some point throughout the season. Annnnd we all know that the first man out of the limo will soon be taking a ride back home in the ‘Depression Mobile’ as Clint put it.
Nick delivers a heartfelt speech to Kaitlyn and begins to get down on one knee until she completely stops him, and cue the painfully awkward breakup speech. Kaitlyn attempts to tell Nick that what she felt was real to her “in that moment,” but Nick fires back saying they were more than momentary feelings, and said, QUOTE, “You don’t want to be with me and you don’t feel what I feel and you don’t love me.” Those words were enough to shut Kaitlyn up and walk Nick out before being thrown into the pool.
