The merbau tree (Malacca teak) is now Malaysia's national tree.
Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad made the announcement at the opening of the “Hutan Kita: Journey Through Our Rainforest” exhibition on Malaysian rainforests at KL Tower on Friday, and further reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to the Rio Earth Summit in 1992.
