When some people saw Todrick Hall in Taylor Swifts LWYMMD video they were not pleased to put it mildly.
Todrick has some words for all the haters...
When Taylor swift shared the teaser of her music video last week it should have been a celebratory moment for Todrick Hall who was featured in the 13 sec clip but Instead of receiving praise for the fierce choreo the Kinky Boots star received backlash from fans who were calling him a sell out accussing him of betraying the Black,LGBTQ and yes even the Beyonce Community.
Hall took to twitter to share his interview with Yahoo where he addresses all these issues. He started off the interview by shutting down any speculation of Taylor ripping of Beyonces formation video saying
“I was just very confused by that, because I knew that there was nothing “Formation”-esque or Lemonade-esque about the video. Artistically, I didn’t feel that was the case.
He went on to talk about how he is a humongous fan of Beyoncé and that he has choreographed for he before. And that quote “I would never intentionally be a part of art that would rip off one of my favorite artists I felt like these were two completely different lanes.”
But the majority of the backlash was centered around the term “sellout” where the black and lgbtq community felt like he turned his back on them by being in the video. Tordrick couldn’t see it anymore different telling Yahoo
I have gotten comments from people who are upset and have literally said the fact that I am friends with a white person is a problem, because white people don’t possess the ability to love or ever truly care about black people.. And I find that very disheartening
“ I don’t think I’ve sold out my race or my community — the gay community, the black community. I think that I was just in a piece of art that my friend made. I’m not issuing a statement to people about it to explain myself, because there’s nothing to explain. I’m not sorry that I did it, and I don’t think that it was a mistake. If I had a do-over, I would absolutely be there for another eight hours, in heels, dancing with her.”
