Taylor Swift is the gift that keeps on giving. And tonight at the VMA’s was no different. She slayed the carpet, killed her performance, and not only won awards but was a selfless queen.
What’s up? It’s Erin Robinson here with Clevver News and Taylor Swift took home the award for “Best Video for Good” for her “You Need To Calm Down” video and of course, in typical Taylor fashion, she let everyone else take the spotlight in that winning moment.
I mean if I couldn’t possibly love her more after this new album, this acceptance put me over the edge.
Taylor brought all the collaborators from the music video up onstage with her including all the queens from RuPaul’s drag race, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Hannah Hart, and her co-executive producer/BFF Todrick Hall.
It was really a special moment about the meaning behind the You Need To Calm Down video which comes from Taylor’s support of the Equality Act and celebrating the LGBTQ+ community.
And Taylor let the others take the spotlight instead of giving an acceptance speech.
She literally didn’t say a single word when accepting this award and let it be all about Todrick.
Taylor stood to the side and gave hugs to everyone onstage.
In Todrick’s acceptance speech, he spoke about the importance of being different and how it is important to be yourself more now than ever.
And fans on Twitter were living for this selfless moment from Taylor.
One person said quote, “All the drag queens up on stage with Taylor Swift, and her having Todrick Hall accept the award was just awesome. #VMAs”
And another person said quote, “Taylor Swift giving Todrick Hall, an actually queer individual, the microphone after she won the award for a music video about LGBTQ+ equality is TRUE ALLYSHIP AND EVERY STRAIGHT PERSON OUT THERE SHOULD BE TAKING NOTES. #VMAs”
I couldn’t have said it better myself.
But I want to know what you guys thought of this moment.
Did you love Taylor giving Todrick and the others from her video the spotlight? Or do you wish she would’ve said something?
