We start the day with Soto Betawi- soto is an Indonesian soup and we head to local favourite Soto Roxy to sample their version. We order the soto campur which is filled with a mix of different cuts of meat (beef)- it’s spicy, slightly creamy from the addition of coconut milk and given a bit of texture from the addition of emping- belinjo nuts.

Next up we head to South Jakarta for one of Indonesia’s most famous dishes- gado gado. Gado gado is a boiled vegetable salad covered in a creamy peanut sauce which includes a touch of tamarind. This small street stall which is located outside some grand residences in South Jakarta serves up an amazing version.

We then head to Fatahilla Square to track down the street snack of kerak telur- a type of omelette that is cooked with sticky rice. Unfortunately we see our kerak telur take off down the street never to return after the police ask the street vendors to move on. Better luck next time!

We end with nasi uduk- a dish of coconut rice served with a number of different sides together with a peanut sambal. Creamy rice accompanied by fried chicken, stir fried kankung and beef. Delicious!
