We visit Takamaru a popular local restaurant famous for their affordable and fresh seafood. With $40 to spend we see just how far our money can go! We order Takamaru’s 3 wooden bowls for 2980 yen which are made up of uni (sea urchin) and ikura (salmon roe) sushi, maguro (tuna) sashimi and boiled crab meat and scallops. We also sample their raw octopus with wasabi and minced tuna meat with natto (fermented soy beans) for 500 yen each. All the seafood we eat is fresh and tasty- the tuna sashimi in particular is delicious as are the raw octopus and minced tuna with natto. The restaurant is boisterous, loud and the perfect place to have a few drinks and feast on Japanese seafood for a fair price. Highly recommended!
Note that the ‘Wooden bowls’ are only available for dinner (after 4pm or so). At lunch time there is a set menu option.
Where we ate:
Takamaru
