Lawyers for Liberty adviser N Surendran has described the Pakatan Harapan government's reaction to the International Women's Day march as 'shocking hypocrisy'.
On Monday, Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said that organisers of last Saturday's Women's March in Kuala Lumpur held the event without a permit.
Surendran pointed out that permits aren't required under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 (PAA).
He slammed the Pakatan Harapan government for forgetting its struggle to protect the right to assemble.
More than 300 rallygoers had converged on the city centre on March 9th, for the march which was held in conjunction with International Women's Day.
The presence of the LGBT participants at the demonstration sparked criticism from parties on both sides of the political divide.
According to police, an investigation has been initiated on the Women's March, and that the statements of certain individuals will be recorded.
