Using 'broken' Bahasa Malaysia could soon get you in trouble and cost you a RM1,000 fine if the amendments to the National Language Act 1963 and Education Act 1996, is passed in Parliament.
According to Chinese daily Nanyang Siang Pau, the measure enforced by DBP has been agreed in principle by Putrajaya and would be discussed by a special cabinet committee chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi
The measure is meant to educate the public to use the national language, properly, especially in online advertisements. However DBP director-general Abdul Adzis Abas reportedly said that even when DBP had the power to impose a fine, the agency would first advise and correct "broken" Bahasa Malaysia, without resorting to strong enforcement measures.
