Times are changing in the YouTube world and it’s all thanks to Logan Paul.
The outcry against Logan Paul and his controversial vlogs and actions have been too loud for YouTube to completely ignore.
Ever since Logan’s infamous Japan vlog, many believed that YouTube needed to implement harsher penalties against those who create offensive and insensitive videos. So, in a response to the backlash, YouTube revealed in a recent blog post that they’ve added new penalties to their list of Community Guidelines.

In their post, they explained what sparked these additions by writing QUOTE, “Recently, we faced situations where the egregious actions of a handful of YouTubers harmed the reputation of the broader creator community among advertisers, the media industry and most importantly, the general public. In light of this behavior – and our commitment to tighten our policies and communicate them more quickly and transparently – we’re introducing new consequences to apply in the rare event when one creator’s actions harm the entire community.”
YouTube went on to reveal three new consequences added to their set guidelines. These penalties are pretty simple and basically outline what creators can expect if they create content that is damaging to the creator community.
First, YouTube may QUOTE, “Remove a channel from Google Preferred and also suspend, cancel or remove a creator’s YouTube Original.” Next, they can “suspend a channel’s ability to serve ads, ability to earn revenue and potentially remove a channel from the YouTube Partner Program, including creator support and access to our YouTube Spaces.” And lastly, they can “remove a channel’s eligibility to be recommended on YouTube.”
While the website didn’t name Logan directly in their blog, it’s clear that they created these new penalties with him in mind. Especially since Logan was removed from their Google Preferred, had many (if not all) of his active projects suspended, and recently had the ads on his videos temporarily suspended.
We can’t give Logan all the credit for these new changes at YouTube, BUT his past few videos basically got the ball rolling. Although some people still had questions in regards to these new punishments, many YouTube creators as well as fans are totally in favor of these new changes.
With one user writing QUOTE, “It’s fantastic to see you communicating more and being more clear on what’s going on. We all appreciate the transparency. If implemented properly and efficiently this could definitely help strengthen the platform.”
While another simply wrote QUOTE, “Thank you for thinking of the 99 percent and not your top 1 percent!”
Do you think these new punishments are fitting for the many creators on YouTube? Let me know all your thoughts on this in the comment section below.
