Zendaya To Play Iconic Mary Jane Role In Spider-Man: Homecoming

ZENDAYA'S SPIDER-MAN ROLE HAS BEEN REVEALED — & IT’S A REALLY BIG DEAL

Ok – if you’re still here, this news is freaking awesome. The Wrap is confirming that Zendaya will be playing Mary Jane Watson in the upcoming Sony/Marvel Spiderman movie, Homecoming – And my comic geeks out there will know that Mary Jane is known in the comics for being Peter Parker’s love interest.
Now - originally when Zendaya was first cast she was said to be playing a character named Michelle – but now it seems like that was a cover up, unless Michelle changes her name mid-movie to Mary Jane – which could be possible.
Now if you’re excited about an epic make out scene between Zendaya and Tom Holland, alla Kirsten Dunst’s MJ & Tobey MacGuire in Spider-man it may not go down like that in Homecoming – because word on the street is that Tom’s Peter (the character) will have his eyes set on another girl, Liz Allan played by Laura Harrier.
And the reason why I issued a spoiler warning is this – according to Vulture Zendaya revealing herself as Mary Jane is a major twist in the plot that plays out towards the end of the movie because at some point she tells Peter to quote “call me MJ.”
Now – unless she was poker facing us before – Zendaya described her character to MTV saying quote: “"Everyone is so much like their characters. My character is super dry and awkward. It's great because it's who I am in real life, so I don't feel like I have to act too much."
So much good news in this announcement, not to mention the fact that this is the first time that Mary Jane Watson will be played by a woman of color and that is a shake up that we can get behind.
