The docu-series follows Caitlyn as she introducers herself to her family, friends and the world for the very first time following her transition. The series premiere aired last night on E!, and we’re breaking down the top 5 most important moments from the episode.
1. Caitlyn can’t sleep at night. Right at the beginning of the show, we see Caitlyn awake at 4:32 a.m. She talks right to the camera, explaining that she can’t sleep because she’s worried about youths going through the same transition. She tells the camera QUOTE I feel bad that these, especially young people, are going through such a difficult time in their life. We don’t want people dying over this, we don’t want people murdered over this stuff. What a responsibility I have towards this community. Am I going to do everything right? Am I going to say the right things? Do I project the right image? My mind is just spinning with thoughts. I just hope I get it right, I hope I get it right. END QUOTE
2. Caitlyn reveals why she chose her name. Caitlyn’s mom and two sisters come to meet her at her Malibu house. They sit down to talk and Caitlyn reveals how she chose her name. She tells them QUOTE Talking to other trans people, they said a good way to get your female name is to ask your mother. END QUOTE Caitlyn explains that her mom, Esther, actually had chosen two names before she was born, a boy name and a girl name. Caitlyn is one of girl names that she had chosen.
3. Kylie Jenner meets Caitlyn on FaceTime. Before Kylie met Caitlyn in person, she actually called her on FaceTime. While Caitlyn is sitting with her mom and sisters, Kylie FaceTimes her and they start to talk. Caitlyn asks Kylie QUOTE Am I on FaceTime with you? I don’t want to scare you. END QUOTE Kylie has just woken up at the dentist. Kylie tells Caitlyn QUOTE You’re not scaring me you look pretty. END QUOTE
4. Kylie meets Caitlyn in person for the first time. After meeting Caitlyn on FaceTime, Kylie decides she’s ready to meet her in person. Take a look at their first in-person meeting.
5. Kanye West meets Caitlyn. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West come over to Caitlyn’s house. During their meeting, Kanye tells Caitlyn QUOTE I think this is one of the strongest things that have happened in our, you know, existence as human beings that are so controlled by perception. Because you couldn’t have been up against more, like your daughter’s a supermodel, you’re a celebrity, you have every type of thing, and it was still like F**k everybody, this is who I am. END QUOTE The couple couldn’t have been more supportive of Caitlyn and we loved every minute of their conversation.
