The gathering regarding the ratification of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (Icerd) will proceed as planned, according to its organisers.
However, Gerakan Pembela Ummah secretariat chief Aminuddin Yahaya said the Dec 8 gathering at Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur would not be a protest, but a celebration.
Yesterday, PKR president Anwar Ibrahim said plans to proceed with an anti-Icerd rally is a "mischievous political gimmick".
"We have held rallies to reject the Internal Security Act, to ask for clean and fair elections, and to reject cruelty.
"So if you want to rally, let it be for a reasonable purpose... Because this (anti-Icerd rally) is a mischievous political gimmick as the government has rejected the matter," Anwar was quoted as saying by Bernama.
