Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says this weekend's rally against the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (Icerd) will be lawful.
He also says the organisers will avoid raising sensitive issues, especially about race during the gathering.
The rally, scheduled to take place this Saturday along Jalan Raja in Kuala Lumpur, is organised by Umno, PAS and several Muslim NGO groups in protest against Putrajaya’s original commitment to ratify Icerd.
Protest organisers claim that Icerd would jeopardise the position of the Malays, bumiputera, Islam and the Malay rulers, despite Putrajaya's assurances otherwise.
