It’s no surprise that Ashley Graham was recognized at Glamour’s Women of The Year summit this week. The famed plus-size supermodel has had an incredible year including gracing the cover of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition, all while maintaining her strong stance on body positivity.
And while onstage at the summit, Ashley touched the hearts of females everywhere while accepting her honor.
And If that isn’t empowering enough, Ashley is totally changing the game again with the reveal of her brand Barbie doll made completely in her honor, and likeness, with sexy curves and even matching beauty marks! The Ashley doll is curvy, with long brunette locks, dressed in a sparkly dress and denim jacket, an outfit Ashely previously wore on the red carpet.
Ashley took to Instagram to share a side-by-side of her and her Barbie twin in the matching ensemble, captioning the pic “Thighs touching, round hips, arms and tummy!! Thank you @Mattel and @Barbie for immortalizing me into plastic!
And those thighs touching was the biggest priority when making the doll. Ashley revealed to the Huffington Post QUOTE “The number one prerequisite, though, was that her thighs touched. I was like, guys, we can make this Barbie, but if her thighs don’t touch, she’s not authentic.”
Well, mission accomplished. The doll looks just like Ashley and will hopefully be a great message to young girls, something that Ashley is very passionate about, telling the Huffington Post QUOTE “If I had a barbie my size, I would have thought my size was normal. Young girls now get to grow up seeing that their bodies are normal, which I think is so empowering and encouraging to the younger generation.
It was back in January that Mattel debuted three new revamped Barbie dolls with all new body styles- tall, curvy, and petite, and the Ashley Barbie doll is just another step in the right direction of body positivity in mainstream media and pop culture. Ahh, 2016. What a time to be alive.
