Ashley Graham subtly claps back at Victoria’s Secret for not including plus-size models in their fashion show in the best and most savage way possible.
Who says you need a size 2 frame and a million-dollar bra to become an Angel? Apparently all you need is your own set of wings.
It may be a whole different year, but Ashley Graham is back at the same fight for diversity she was during last year’s Victoria’s Secret fashion show. Although this year’s fashion show has yet to air on national television, last weekend’s taping caused many, including the supermodel, to already express their distaste for the show’s lack of size diversity.
Many fans of Ashley have expressed for years that she should be a part of the show, but over the weekend, their wish was finally granted… well, sort of. Ashley took to Instagram to share a throwback photo of herself walking in the Addition Elle runway in 2016, wearing nothing but matching lingerie and a pair of photoshopped angel wings.
She captioned the photo QUOTE, “Got my wings! My #AdditionElle wings! #thickthighssavelives” and received a wave of support from fans in the comments. One user expressed their disappointment for Ashley not actually being a part of the show, saying QUOTE, “I️ thought for a second she was gonna be in VS fashion show I️ legit almost screamed with joy,” and another called for Victoria’s Secret to start making a change, saying, “PLEASE diversify the runway ASAP to include the spectrum of beauty across all shapes and sizes!!”
But this isn’t the first time Ashley has made a dig at the lingerie brand. During last year’s fashion show, she uploaded fan art of herself in lingerie, walking in front of the VS signature pink and white stripes under a sign that read, “Victoria’s Secret Plus!” She also opened up to TMZ about her dream to walk the Victoria’s Secret runway one day, saying, “When Victoria's Secret calls me and asks me to be on their runway, I am going to say yes.” However earlier last year, she participated in plus-size brand Lane Bryant’s #ImNoAngel campaign.
Of course she’d never pass up an opportunity to walk for Victoria’s Secret, but that decision may still be up in the air due to the fact that Ashley has thrown her share of subtle shade toward the brand. On the plus side, this year’s fashion show has already seen its share of diversity, featuring seven Chinese models walking the runway (even though it’s the year 2017, but that’s a whole different story). Victoria’s Secret has yet to feature a plus-size model, so until then we’ll continue to praise Ashley for taking a stance on the matter, and hope for next year.
Right now I want to know all your thoughts on Ashley’s photo, and if you think 2018 will be her year to join the other Angles, so get to talking down here in the comments, and as always, be sure to subscribe.
