Beyonce is pretty much already my fairy godmother in my head so her playing one on tv wouldn’t be that much of a stretch.
Following their live versions of the Sound of Music and Peter Pan, NBC is now taking on the Wiz with a star studded cast including Mary J. Blidge and Queen Latifah.
For those who may not know, The Wiz is a musical adaptation of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz with an all Black cast known for bringing the world classic hits like “Ease On Down the Road” and “Home.” It was originally on Broadway and then famously adapted for the big screen with an all star cast including Lena Horne as Glinda, Michael Jackson as the Scarecrow, and Diana Ross as Dorothy.
So with Mary J. and Queen Latifah already signed on as the Wicked Witch of the West Evilene and the Wizard, Beyonce playing Glinda would be everything. E! News was the first to start the speculation train and Billboard reached out to Beyonce’s and NBC’s reps for a comment, but so far radio silence. So that could mean that the rumor is true and they just want to keep it a secret or it’s false. Fingers crossed for the first option!
Orange is the New Black’s Uzo Aduba is reportedly also being considered for the role which would be equally as satisfying so it’s really a win win situation.
But I want to hear what you guys think. Would you want to see Beyonce or Uzo play Glinda?
